Raku Pottery Products

In the creation of our vessels, we use the potters wheel and handbuilding techniques to form the pieces. After the pots are air dried, they are bisque fired in an electric kiln to harden the clay and remove the water. We then spray a thin metal glaze over the entire piece and at this point, the piece is all one color. It is then placed in the gas fired raku kiln and is heated rapidly to approximately 1800 degrees farenheit. When the kiln reaches temperature, it is opened and the piece is removed with tongs or a special pair of gloves. Next, it is placed in a metal container filled with sawdust. As soon as the glowing pot touches the sawdust, the combustible material ignites. Flames drape the surface of the piece interacting with the metallic glaze that produces multi-colored patterns of the fire and heat. The piece is then quickly cooled.

We specialize in one of a kind ceramic vessels, covered jars, wall art and teapots. Each piece is guaranteed to have a unique glaze pattern and color.
